Who might be required to have a pre-employment physical?

You cannot be required to undergo a medical exam prior to a job offer, but if you have received a conditional job offer and all applicants are asked to undergo the same exam, a physical exam is permitted under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.

Jobs that require health or fitness, such as being a police officer or firefighter, can require demonstration of the fitness level necessary to perform the expected duties.

What’s involved in a pre-employment physical exam?

These types of ability tests are usually required for physically demanding jobs. Strength tests can also be required for jobs that involve the regular lifting of a certain amount of weight, like package delivery services.

Will drug and alcohol testing be included in pre-employment physicals?

PrimeCare Medical Center provides drug and alcohol screenings if called for by an employer. These include urine screenings and hair analysis. Saliva drug screening and sweat drug screening are other ways to test for drug use.
